Participant Membership

 

Do you participate in cheerleading in Alberta?

Join the ACA, the official Provincial Sport Organization for cheerleading in Alberta.

ACA membership is valid from July 1 to June 30 in each calendar year.


 

Who must register with the ACA?

All individuals and programs engaged in the sport of cheerleading in Alberta, regardless of the type of cheer or position, must be a member of the ACA and Cheer Canada. For example:

  • Recreational

  • Scholastic (Primary, Elementary, Junior High, High School)

  • Collegiate (Post Secondary)

  • All-star (Novice, Prep, Elite)

  • Pro

This includes high performance, performance cheer, game day, individual, duo and group divisions.

 

 

Who are the “individuals” that must be a member of the ACA and why?

Individuals, Participant Members, include the following:

  • Athletes

  • Coaches

  • Coaches-in-training

  • Program staff, administrators, and advisors

  • Officials

What does “in good standing” mean?

Participants who have met all the requirements to become members and:

  • Does not have outstanding dues to the ACA

  • Does not have pending disciplinary investigation or action, or if subject to disciplinary action previously, has fulfilled all terms and conditions of such action to the satisfaction of the Board

  • Was, if applicable, in good standing on the last day of the last membership year.

 

 

What happens a participant is not a registered member in good standing with the ACA?

Participants who are not registered ACA members in good standing:

  • Will not be permitted to compete or perform at any ACA-sanctioned event.

  • Will not be listed as an ACA Certified Coach or Official

  • Will not be covered under the ACA’s general liability and sport accident insurance.

  • Will not be a member of Cheer Canada.

  • Will not participate in any of the ACA’s or Cheer Canada’s programs or services.

 

 

What is an “ACA-sanctioned Event”?

An event that has received approval, under the ACA Sanctioning Policy, to operate. Event Producers and Attendees of ACA-sanctioned events are supported by the ACA.

 

 

Can I coach, compete, or perform if my program is NOT a member?

No. All Alberta cheer programs and participants must register with the ACA.

 

 

What if I participate in multiple positions?

Individuals that participate in multiple positions (e.g. coach/athlete, coach/official, coach/admin, all-star athlete/scholastic athlete, etc.) only need to register once and pay for higher fee of their positions.

Example 1:

Member A is an All-Star athlete and coach; Member A pays the Coach membership fee.

Example 2:

Member B is an All-Star athlete and a Scholastic athlete; Member B pays the All-Star athlete membership fee.
