Volunteer Information and Reminders
The ACA has partnered with Alberta Casino Advisors for our Casino Fundraiser once again this year.
Volunteers are an integral participant in a Licensed Casino Event. You must attend when scheduled (plan to arrive 15 minutes before your schedule). The Casino Advisors will try their best to have relieve you at the end of your scheduled shift.
IMPORTANT NOTE: A casino is not permitted to operate if volunteers are missing. This will affect the ACA’s revenue, the Casino Employees’ income, and the Casino Facility Operator.
Experience is not required with any position. Alberta Casino Advisors will be working with us once again to provide training and guidance to you throughout your shift.
The consumption of alcohol or legal recreational substances before or during the volunteer's work shift is prohibited.
No volunteer may gamble in their assigned casino facility during any period (both days) of the Licensed Casino Event regardless of if they are on a scheduled shift or not.
All volunteer workers should refrain from using cash while on-duty at a Casino Event. You will receive free food from the casino restaurant/bar (please keep your menu items to around $20 per person per shift).
You are prohibited from loaning or borrowing money to or from anyone for any reason while on-duty at a casino. Basically, there is no reason for you to be seen with cash in your hands other than for performing their volunteering duties.
Volunteers are not permitted to be in possession of casino chips and other casino negotiables except to perform volunteer duties.
The use of smartphones, tablets and laptops are permitted in the volunteer lounge. Most casinos do not allow the use of computers in the cash cage or count room. Taking photographs or video is prohibited.
Some casinos offer Wi-Fi access but there is no guarantee that you can use it.
All volunteers must have government-issued photo identification and present it when requested.
While there is no official dress code, please remember that you're representing the ACA. Many casino patrons are not aware that you are volunteers, so please dress to present a good impression to the patrons. (i.e., no shorts, tight t-shirts, ragged/torn look).
Some casinos prefer you wear black pants and white (or light coloured) shirts.
Please advise us if there are any allergies that we should be aware.
As volunteers there are responsibilities to be performed, but this is a fun social event too. Let's have fun and enjoy our time earning significant money for your organization.
If you require transportation, please let your casino chairperson (contact below) know and they can arrange for an Uber or Taxi.
Expenses eligible for reimbursement include the following.
Parking (if there is no free parking available at the casino)
Babysitting
Adult respite care if the volunteer is normally responsible for the care of a medically dependent person within the volunteer’s home
Overnight accommodation (if volunteer resides over 40km from the casino and starting before 10 a.m.)
Expense reimbursement procedure:
Volunteers must submit proof of purchase/expense to the Casino Chairperson within 7 days of the event to receive reimbursement.
Eligible receipts must include item(s) purchased, date, vendor/service provider name and contact information, and payment method.
Reimbursements will be paid by cheque, you will need to provide a mailing address.
