Become a Coach

Why Coach?

Coaching can be a very fulfilling experience and can provide a positive experience for your athletes and yourself.  As a coach you have the ability to have a significant impact on your athletes and to contribute to your community.  You will have many different roles for different people; teacher, leader, role model, mentor, friend and organizer.

Coaches Certification Program

Alberta is currently the only province that offers an official certification program for school coaches.  First initiated in 2001 and implemented in 2003, the program has grown to an exceptional training program for our coaches.  With the focus on safety and proper skill development, coaches learn how to start a cheer program, to set goals with and for their teams, the different types of learners and teaching styles, and how to properly teach the skills required for the specific cheer program.

Requirements

All supervising school cheer coaches must be certified in the following:
  1. First Aid
  2. CPR
  3. ACA Coaches' Certification - Minimum Level 1

All supervising all star coaches must be certified in the following:
  1. First Aid
  2. CPR
  3. USASF/IASF - Up to the level coaching (Level 1 - 6)

 Where Can I Coach?

There are numerous opportunities available to coach in Alberta.  Many schools (elementary - high school) currently have cheer teams and are often looking for new or more coaches.  If the school you are interested in does not have a cheer team, please contact them directly to see if they are interested in having a team.  The ACA will provide assistance in getting a program started.

There are also a number of all star programs in the province who often need more coaches.  You can view a list of programs by going to the All Star page.  Please contact them directly for more information on coaching with them.
