About the Alberta Cheerleading Association
The ACA is committed to fostering strength and sportmanship in the athletes and cheerleading community within the province of Alberta.
ACA Mission Statement
To promote and foster the growth of cheerleading in the Province of Alberta by acting as the regulating body for cheerleading rules, safety guidelines, and training while encouraging sportsmanship and respect among athletes, coaches, school staff, and parents. Cheerleading has been a recognized sport with the Alberta Schools Athletic Association (ASAA) since 1984.
The Role of the ACA
The ACA provides training and certification for coaches across the province. All supervising coaches must be certified in order to be eligible to compete. School coaches may certify from Level 1- 3 with the ACA Coaches Certification. All Star Coaches may certify in Level 1 - 6 with the USASF/IASF.
The ACA also trains and certifies judges. Judges are required to certify every season. High school division judges must be out of high school for a minimum of 1 year before judging. In addition, judges are not permitted to have any affiliation with teams they are assigned to judge. Judges are assigned to events by the ACA Competition Director, not the host competitions. The competition director is responsible for training judges according to the score sheets and degree of difficulty scales.
The ACA provides member teams with information on events, competitions, camps, clinics, cheer companies, and much more. The member ship of the ACA is approximately 75 schools from across the province. The association hosts annual Coaches' and Athletes' Conferences each fall . The ACA also hosts an annual competition at West Edmonton Mall. This is the association's only fundraiser. Proceeds from the event pay for things such as annual awards, scholarships, website, training, and daily operating costs.
